How to use SERP preview

  1. Enter a title, meta description and representative URL.
  2. Review the desktop and mobile-style preview plus the guidance counts.
  3. Edit the page itself as well; a preview cannot force a search engine to use the supplied text.

02 / interpret the output

What the result means

The preview shows an approximate search-result layout and reports approximate character counts. Pixel width varies by character and font, so it is more useful than a hard character limit but remains an estimate.

Important considerations

  • Google and other search engines can rewrite titles and descriptions.
  • The preview does not fetch the page or test whether the URL is accessible.
  • Snippet appearance, truncation and query bolding vary by device and query.

Worked example

Try a specific title such as ‘Technical SEO audits for ecommerce websites’ and keep the description focused on what the page actually covers.

Move to the next relevant task without losing the context of this page.

Questions about this tool

Will Google display this snippet exactly?

No. The preview is a drafting aid. Search engines choose snippets dynamically and may use visible page text instead.

Should I target a fixed character limit?

Use readability and useful information first, then use the counts and approximate width as a sanity check.
